The Power of Music Education – Estonian Experience
At Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn, Estonia, April 17th to 21st 2018
Music has been part of European education already for millennia shaping the cultural reality we are living in today. Both music and education are phenomena shaping human beings into members of a society in a most remarkable way. Thus, the importance, uniqueness and power of music education have to be advocated constantly.
The aim of the conference is to discuss on music education developments in the past and present, examining possible trends for the future as well as sharing the ideas, traditions and achievements of music education in Estonia.
The main program of the conference includes presentations, workshops and a rich framework program with the aim to network and meet international professionals. The additional program is the participation of the final performances of the 4th International Music Olympiade, which will take place the days following the conference (April 20 and 21, 2018). The best practices from preschool music activities to choir singing, Orff and Kodaly approaches implemented at general comprehensive school music education will be shared with the participants in numerous workshops.
The traditions and professional approaches of music education in Estonia have been created in the period longer than 100 years. We hope to inspire music educators all over Europe to contribute to sustainability of music education in different countries and use its potential for human development.
